We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Automation & Robotics Controls Manager to lead and oversee the automation, controls, programming, and robotics teams. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving the design, development, and implementation of advanced control systems and robotic solutions for automated machinery. This role requires a blend of technical expertise in both controls and robotics, along with strong leadership and project management skills. The Automation & Robotics Controls Manager will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality automation projects on time and within budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage a team of automation, controls, programming, and robotics personnel, fostering a positive and motivated team environment.
  • Oversee the design, programming, and integration of control and robotic systems, including PLCs, HMIs, multi-axis robots, and collaborative robots (cobots).
  • Develop and maintain project plans, schedules, and budgets, ensuring the successful execution of automation projects while meeting quality standards and business objectives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including mechanical engineering, software development, and other stakeholders, to integrate control and robotic solutions.
  • Mentor, train, and conduct performance evaluations of team members, promoting technical excellence and knowledge sharing within the team.
  • Troubleshoot and perform technical adjustments for custom automated equipment, ensuring smooth operation and problem resolution.
  • Ensure compliance with safety and regulatory standards (e.g., CE marking, CSA, ISO ) for both control and robotic systems.
  • Engage directly with clients, providing technical support and ensuring their automation and robotics requirements are met.
  • Continuously evaluate and improve automation processes, methodologies, and team performance, driving innovation through advancements in robotics and Industry  technologies.
  • Support the commissioning and troubleshooting of automation systems, including on-site installations when required.
  • Assist with the onboarding of new staff, facilitate health and safety protocols, and track team performance against goals.
  • Create and implement standards and guidelines for the automation team, ensuring adherence to company policies and procedures.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, Robotics, Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in controls engineering, automation, and robotics, with at least 4 years in a management role.
  • Strong proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens), HMI development, robotic programming (e.g., FANUC, ABB, KUKA), and motion control systems.
  • Hands-on experience with robot integration, multi-axis robotic arms, and vision systems.
  • Solid understanding of industrial communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, Ethernet/IP, ProfiNet) and safety standards.
  • Experience in managing multiple projects, prioritizing tasks, and delivering solutions in fast-paced, deadline-driven environments.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and complex automation projects.
  • Some Travel required
