To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess the following skills/experience:

  • Experienced and knowledgeable in automation industry.
  • Strong skills in written communication, time management and organization.
  • A minimum of 5 years of “hands-on” electronic / automated control system experience from an integrator.
  • Proven record of PLC programming, familiarity with Allen Bradley, Keyence products, and Turck and Balluff.
  • Must have strong decision-making skills, can work well under pressure, and meet strict deadlines.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
  • Must be eligible/willing to travel outside of Canada and have a valid passport.

Job Description:

  • Prepare functional descriptions of process controls and sequence operations.
  • Development and support of PLC and HMI programs for use on industrial equipment.
  • Integration of specialized hardware and software into manufacturing systems to enhance automation and control with an emphasis on efficiency.
  • Commission and troubleshoot robotic applications, troubleshooting of process problems and complete quality improvements as required to maintain part standards.
  • Assist customers and/or team members with electrical/programming issues, assist in the training of staff on electronic equipment.
  • Responsible to keep proper documentation of changes to the programs, maintains and upgrades in PLC software.
  • Analyses, records, and charts documentation required for maintenance records and projects.
  • Services, maintains, repairs, installs and tests new or existing equipment and verifies conformance to specifications.
  • Assist with start-up, commission, and support on customer sites.
  • Collaborate directly with project managers/leads and electrical.
  • Maintain safety standards of equipment and work area. Perform all duties in a safe manner in accordance with safety policies.
  • Responsible for the completion of necessary paperwork in a timely manner.
  • Ability to assist Electric Designer choosing proper HMIs, and reviewing drawings

Experience and Education:

  • Completion of a technical diploma program from an accredited college/university or must possess equivalent qualifications/education.
  • Proven record of PLC programming, familiarity with Allen Bradley, Keyence products, and Turck and Balluff asset
  • Experience with Omron, Siemens, Beckhoff
  • A minimum of 3 years of “hands-on” electronic / automated control system experience from an integrator.
  • Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement principals is considered a strong asset.
  • Sound problem-solving skills, including problem identification and solutions from a personal and team level.
  • Strong communication, organization, and time management skills.
  • Experience in developing and writing work instructions.
  • Experience in custom automation is considered a strong asset
